Second President of Armenia, leader of the “Armenia” bloc Robert Kocharyan says the idea of creating the second military base in Syunik Province is feasible. This is what he announced in response to a question about the possibility of a second military base during his campaign meeting in Kapan town.
“I believe it’s feasible, but there’s one issue that I always emphasize, and it’s the following: If we Armenians want others to respect us, we need to have our Armed Forces. Yes, the Russian Federation is unquestionably Armenia’s strategic ally, but Armenia needs to represent itself. If Armenia wants to solve its issues on the basis of partnership and not through supplication, it needs to restore the army and security with allied countries as soon as possible. Any other path will imply vulnerable sovereignty and loss of respect,” Kocharyan said.
