The Rincon de la Vieja volcano in northwestern Costa Rica, one of the five largest in the republic, began to erupt on Monday. 

The authorities of the Central American country urged the population of nearby areas not to be near rivers, TASS reported, citing the Prensa Latina agency.

The volcano threw out a column of ash 2 km high, no damage was reported. Costa Rica's leadership has warned residents that emissions can enter riverbeds, so it is necessary to avoid being on the banks and on bridges over the riverbeds.
