During the first session of the eighth convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia, the Civil Contract parliamentary faction elected Alen Simonyan Speaker of the National Assembly with 71 votes ‘in favor’ and in the absence of the opposition blocs.
The opposition ‘Armenia’ and ‘I Have Honor’ blocs had boycotted the vote.
