Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Suren Papikyan today received Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia John Gallagher.

As reported the Government of Armenia, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that the development of Armenia-UK relations is important for Armenia and added that there is a lot of unused potential.

UK Ambassador John Gallagher expressed gratitude for the reception, presented the results of his meetings with various state and political figures and stressed that the United Kingdom is interested in multilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for partnership in various fields such as business, tourism, new technologies, climate change, etc. Papikyan assured that Armenia is committed to the policy on reforms in the system of governance and the development of democratic institutions and mechanisms. He also set aside the potential directions for the Armenia-UK cooperation in the economic sector and particularly mentioned the need to restore the direct flights to and from Yerevan and London.

Touching upon the situation created in the post-war period, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to invest multilateral efforts for the establishment of stability and peace and appreciated the UK’s position according to which the platform for a resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the OSCE Minsk Group, which will bring sustainable and long-term peace. The parties also discussed the issues related to security and the socio-economic situation in Syunik Province and, in this context, Papikyan presented the Armenian government’s priorities for renovation of the province’s road network, advancement of communities and improvement of the socio-economic situation of the population.
