YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: As it is known, RA former Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan and his close friend [and arms supplier] Davit Galstyan, Patron Davo, were arrested yesterday.

According to the information we received, although the former officials are arrested, the investigative body has found itself in a deadlock. The thing is that former minister Tonoyan has refused to testify, which prevents the NSS [(National Security Service)] from moving forward with the criminal case and finding out the circle of guilty persons. That is to say, the NSS is holding its breath and waiting for when Tonoyan, who has been arrested for two months, will testify.

Let us recall that Zhoghovurd daily had written that the chief of the General Staff [of the Armed Forces], Artak Davtyan, will also be summoned for questioning, and it is not ruled out that he will also be charged under the criminal case initiated by the NSS.

Let us note that there are actually three defendants in the criminal case initiated in the NSS on charges of abuse of official power, large-scale embezzlement: former Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan, MOD [arms] supplier Davit Galstyan—Patron Davo—, and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Stepan Galstyan, was detained yesterday.
