YEREVAN. – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Stepan Galstyan, has also been detained within the framework of a criminal case under investigation by the National Security Service (NSS)—and into misuse and large-scale embezzlement in the process of supplying weapons to the armed forces, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the NSS.

On the same day, Galstyan was included as a defendant in the aforesaid criminal case—and on charges of abuse of office and committing official fraud—, and a petition has been filed with court to remand him in custody.

To note, the NSS on Wednesday conducted searches in the homes of former Minister of defense Davit Tonoyan, Deputy Chief of General of the Armed Forces Staff Stepan Galstyan, and former Chief of Military Aviation Avetik Muradyan. They even searched Tonoyan's mother's apartment. It is not known what the investigators expected to find in those homes months after the criminal case was initiated in the NSS. There are only rumors circulating in the press that the law enforcement officers were looking for documents and money.

And according to court decisions, Davit Tonoyan and arms supplier Davit Galstyan have been remanded in custody for two months along the lines of the aforementioned criminal case.
