Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, together with his wife Nouneh Sarkissian, on Tuesday will travel to Italy on a state visit at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

This will be the first state visit by a President of Armenia to Italy in the 30-year history of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian President's press service reported.

Presidents Sarkissian and Mattarella will have a private conversation at the residence of the Italian President, which will be followed by an extended meeting of the delegations. Also, the Presidents of Armenia and Italy will make a statement for the press.

Within the framework of the visit, President Sarkissian is scheduled to meet also with the speakers of the Italian Council of Ministers, Senate and Chamber of Deputies, as well as with the mayor of Rome.

During the visit, President Sarkissian will also be hosted at the Armenian Levonian College in Rome, where he will meet with representatives of the Italian Armenian community.

At the Sapienza University of Rome, President Sarkissian will attend the reopening ceremony of the Chair of Armenology, as well as deliver a lecture at the University of Bologna.

Within the framework of President Armen Sarkissian's state visit to Italy, an exhibition of works by great Armenian painters Ivan (Hovhannes) Aivazovsky, Gevorg Bashinjaghian, Martiros Saryan, Vardges Sureniants, and Hakob Kojoyan will open at the residence of the Italian President.
