YEREVAN. – The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, took part in a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican—and as part of a delegation led by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the ombudsman's office.

Tatoyan handed to the Vatican Secretary of State his reports and solid evidence on the Azerbaijani torture and ill-treatment of Armenian captives after the September-November 2020 war.

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia stressed the urgency of returning the Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan, emphasizing that the respective international requirements have been grossly violated and that they are being held as a military and political bargaining chip.

Tatoyan reflected also on the illegal deployment of Azerbaijani servicemen on the roads between the communities of Armenia after the war, and their incursions into the sovereign territory of Armenia in Gegharkunik and Syunik Provinces and their consequences.
