Moscow proceeds from the priority to ensure geopolitical stability in the South Caucasus. This is what Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova said today, commenting on the statement of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian about the threat of geopolitical changes on borders in the South Caucasus.

“Russia is leading a relevant comprehensive policy, including by maintaining dialogue with all actors in the region. Yesterday the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation and Iran discussed the initiative for the creation of the “3+3” format (Russia, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia). Our Iranian friends have a positive attitude towards this initiative,” Zakharova added.

Earlier, Abdollahian announced the following during a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow: “Iran won’t accept geopolitical changes in the Caucasus. The region can’t present new, extra demands. Iran anticipates that other countries will positively respond to its friendly-neighborly policy. We won’t accept geopolitical changes of the region in the Caucasus. We are still concerned about the presence of Zionists and terrorists.”
