Interestingly, de facto the opposition in Armenia truly believes that Armenia is a legal state and that it is possible to restrain the authorities by laws and the Constitution. This is what human rights activist Avetik Ishkhanyan wrote on his Facebook page, adding the following:

“Fight, fight until…You read the daily newsfeed and…you are amazed by the fact that all members of the opposition are running in the elections of local self-government bodies and that the parliamentary opposition has submitted another application to the Constitutional Court.

I will not list the known truths that the whole system of laws and forces is de jure and de facto in the Prime Minister’s ‘pocket’, and now the whole judiciary after Gagik Jhangiryan ‘privatized’ the position of chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. As for the Constitutional court, it has also become a structure that is in the Prime Minister’s ‘pocket’ after the adoption of the well-known unconstitutional ‘law’.

I have a question for the figures and forces that consider themselves truly the opposition: Are you really that naïve to address applications to the law-enforcement authorities of Armenia with the belief in certain legal procedures, or do you no longer have any tool or format for a political struggle and have actually come to grips with the reality and are imitating a struggle?”
