Mikheil Saakashvili’s condition has worsened on the tenth day of his hunger strike, Georgia Online reports, citing Saakashvili’s personal doctor Nikoloza Kipshidze, who visited Saakashvili in prison today.

The doctor added that Saakashvili also refuses to eat honey or drink juice and has informed the penitentiary institution about this. Currently, he is only drinking water.

Based on the doctor’s reports, Georgia’s third president has thalassemia, a rare blood disorder in which case a hunger strike is strongly prohibited. The doctor reported Saakashvili’s diagnosis upon his consent.

Mikheil Saakashvili was apprehended on Oct. 1 when he switched on his Ukrainian mobile phone that the Georgian special services had wiretapped. From that mobile phone, he downloaded his last video message in which he said he would soon be detained and called on his supporters to fight against Ivanishvili’s regime.
