Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan today received Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia Thierry Ribaux.

As reported the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan attached importance to the humanitarian activities of the ICRC in Armenia and mentioned that he is ready to make all efforts to promote the effective and quick solution to a number of problems.

Thierry Ribaux presented to the parliamentary speaker the main goals and directions of the ICRC and provided details about the mission of the structure led by him related to the Artsakh conflict, especially during the last year.

The sides discussed the issues regarding captives detained in Azerbaijan and those missing in action, as well as touched upon the humanitarian situation created in Artsakh after the 44- day war.

Thierry Ribaux noted that the representatives regularly meet with the families of the victims, the missing and the persons in jail, follow through regular visits the conditions for keeping our compatriots in Azerbaijan. One of the goals of the efforts is also to prevent the disappearance of the captives and help them maintain communication with their family members.

Let us inform that the ICRC carries out exclusively humanitarian and apolitical activities with regard to the conflict, working in the region since 1992 through its offices in Yerevan, Baku and Nagorno-Karabakh.
