Minister of Foreign Affairs of India Subramanyam Jayshankar has arrived in Armenia.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahan Hunanyan posted on his Facebook page that Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan greeted him at the airport.

This is the Indian foreign minister’s first visit to Armenia.

On August 31, 1992, Armenia and India signed a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The resident embassies of both countries began to operate in 1999. Armenia’s Ambassador to India is Yuri Babakhanyan (since March 15, 2021, and India’s Ambassador to Armenia is Kishan Dan Deval (since August 2019).

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Armenia and India have signed 34 documents, and another seven are in the stage of consideration.

On December 14, 1995, Armenia and India signed the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation in New Delhi.

On May 23, 2003, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of India in the Field of Defense was signed.

Armenia and India have effective experience in political dialogue and high-level contacts and reciprocal visits.

Between January and August 2021, according to the feature of exporting country, the Armenia-India trade turnover comprised nearly USD 105,300,000, and Armenia’s export comprised USD 72,400,000.

India is one of the three constituent countries to the International North-South Corridor (INSTC) Agreement, the aim of which is to improve and enhance transfers between member states. Armenia joined the International North-South Corridor Agreement on April 13, 2006.

The governments of Armenia and India have effective experience in mutual aid and joint activities within the scope of the fight against COVID-19.

India has co-authored the Resolution on declaring the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of Victims of Crime of Genocide and Prevention of this Crime proposed at the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 11, 2015.
