Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan Sergey Lavrov and Jeyhun Bayramov discussed current issues related to bilateral relations and items on the regional and global agendas.

“The parties exchanged views on the implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on November 9, 2020 and on January 11, 2021, taking into consideration the upcoming anniversary of the adoption of the trilateral statement on ceasefire and end of all hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

“Hour hands were adjusted” for weakening tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, unblocking all transport and economic links in the South Caucasus and creating a favorable atmosphere for regional cooperation. Lavrov highlighted the importance of continuity of the efforts for political and diplomatic settlement of the whole scope of issues related to the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. With satisfaction, the ministers recorded the ongoing development of the multifaceted strategic partnership between Russia and Azerbaijan,” the press release of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that the ministers also discussed the activities of the working group in charge of restoration of transport and communication [in the region-ed.], adding that the ministers attached importance to development of the “3+3” platform for cooperation while exchanging views on the current situation in the region.

The foreign ministers of Russia and Armenia held personal talks yesterday.
