Numerous criminals in Azerbaijan will be released from prison on the anniversary of the Azerbaijani occupation of part of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

According to Azerbaijani media, this amnesty is the “brainchild” of the country’s president, Ilham Aliyev.

It is assumed that this amnesty will be the largest in Azerbaijan in terms of the number of people and penitentiaries to which it will apply.

Accordingly, the amnesty will apply more than 16 thousand people; and more than 3,000 of them serving sentences in prisons will be released.

Also, it is envisaged that about 3,000 others will be released from the yet-unserved part of their sentence.
