The data on the poverty rate in Armenia for 2020 have not been released yet, but the World Bank estimates that the poverty rate in the country has risen by 7 percentage points. Opposition "Armenia" Faction MP Tadevos Avetisyan, who is also deputy chair of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, stated about this at the NA standing committees’ joint debates Friday on Armenia’s draft state budget for 2022.
According to him, 2021 is not over yet, but the current respective projections are already causing concern.
"In fact, we have information that the real incomes of the citizens [of Armenia] have reduced, the expenses have increased by more than 18 percent; that is, it turns out that their incomes should increase by almost 29 percent," Avetisyan noted.
