YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Friday received president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexander Sergeev, the PM’s office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The premier welcomed Sergeev and highlighted the development and expansion of cooperation in the field of science between Armenia and Russia. Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that during Sergeev’s visit the possibilities of implementing joint programs and projects will be discussed, ensuring effective cooperation for the scientific communities of the two countries. According to the head of the executive branch of power, the spheres of science and education are among the priorities of the Armenian government, and the 2022 state funding for science will be increased by 85 percent.

Alexander Sergeev, for his part, noted that they are interested in expanding cooperation with Armenian scientists and researchers, adding that discussions on concrete proposals are underway. According to the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Armenian scientists have made a significant contribution to the development of the field. Also, Sergeev attached importance to the implementation of joint programs for new scientific developments, exchange of experience, and further education and training of young specialists.

Prime Minister Pashinyan welcomed the initiatives aimed at expanding the Armenian-Russian ties in the field of science, and noted that the Armenian government will do everything possible to assist in their successful implementation. According to the premier, science can also become one of the key directions of the Armenian-Russian strategic cooperation.
