During its session on November 9, the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia will consider the bill submitted by deputy of the opposition “Armenia” faction Aram Vardevanyan according to which reporting or providing false information to the parliamentary probe committees shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of five to seven years.

Reporting or providing false information to a probe committee in the fields of defense and security shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years.

The bill also proposes to criminalize reporting or providing false information to the probe committees of the National Assembly.

Vardevanyan states that the probe committees of the National Assembly and their activities are guaranteed by both the Constitution of Armenia and the Constitutional Law “Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly”.
