Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who was re-elected President of Uzbekistan, took office on Saturday, TASS has learned from the press service of the country’s Senate where the inauguration ceremony is currently taking place.

"Shavkat Mirziyoyev won 80.12 percent of the votes of the voters in the October 24 regular presidential election, and, under the law, today he assumes the post of President of Uzbekistan," the aforesaid press service quoted Uzbekistan's Central Election Commission chairman Zayniddin Nizamhojayev, who handed to Mirziyoyev his presidential certificate.

Then Mirziyoyev, laying his hands on the Uzbek constitution and the Koran, swore allegiance to the people of Uzbekistan.
