There is one among all the countries with whom it is pointless to discuss relations with; it is Russia, as it is impossible to discuss what is a priori. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian stated this in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty newspaper of Russia—and when asked about Armenia's relations with other countries and Russia.

"There are theorems in mathematics, but there are also axioms. Armenia's relations with a third country are a theorem, whereas its relations with Russia are an axiom. We [Armenians] have lived for several hundred years in the Ottoman and then in the Russian Empires. As a result, the Armenian republic, which existed in the Russian Empire, is independent Armenia today.

And where is Western Armenia, which was in the Ottoman Empire? Where are the Armenians who lived there? There are as many Armenians in Russia today as in Armenia, whereas in Turkey they were lot more.

You asked if the current changes could have an impact on [Armenia’s] relations with Russia. The important thing is that I do not even want to discuss the strength of the friendship between our [two] countries; that is an axiom to me," the Armenian President added.
