What the peacekeepers are doing is of great significance from the perspective of regional policy, the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, the future of the region and the possible negotiations over exclusion of war in the future. This is what President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian said in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty” newspaper.

Asked how he would assess the work of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh and how long they will need to be there, Sarkissian said the following: “Always. The Russian army has been in this region for decades and centuries, and its presence is extremely important. Perhaps I need to take the opportunity and express gratitude to them [the Russian peacekeepers]. At the end of the day, they are soldiers who could have served in a Russian territory at ease. After all, who can guarantee that nothing will happen to us Armenians in the future? However, Vladimir Putin and your country’s leadership made a difficult decision, and I would also like to thank them for this.”
