Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has touched upon the topic of the "Zangezur corridor."

Speaking to reporters about the results of his visit to Azerbaijan, the Turkish defense minister said that "the opening of the Zangazur [(Zangezur)] corridor does not pose a threat to any side."

According to him, the Armenians and Azerbaijanis should hold a dialogue on this matter.

"It is necessary to support that process, not to prevent it. Cooperation will lead to an increase in prosperity—and this process is not limited to Azerbaijan. All countries in the region will feel the positive impact," he said.

Akar added that Armenia should use the historic chance and respond to the calls for peace from Turkey and Azerbaijan. He believes that the best contribution to regional development would be the close cooperation between the countries of the region—namely Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Georgia, Iran, and Russia.

Meanwhile, Armenia has repeatedly stated that it supports the unblocking of roads in the region, but not by the logic of "corridors." The Russian side also has stated that the overseeing of communications should be exercised by the countries through whose territory they pass. But Azerbaijan and Turkey insist on the "Zangezur corridor," placing a special meaning in that phrase.
