Russia will continue to work on returning the Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan. This is what Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said during a conversation with Sputnik Armenia and 24News.
“You know that this topic is always in the focus of not only the authorities of Armenia, but also the authorities of Russia and the peacekeepers. Five persons were returned to Armenia in the not too distant past, and these activities are in progress,” the Ambassador said.
According to Kopirkin, this issue is one of the priorities, and Moscow will continue to work in this direction. The Ambassador recalled that Russia has always declared the principle of “all for all”.
The diplomat assured that there won’t be deals made behind the Armenian people’s back when the communications with Azerbaijan are opened. According to Kopirkin, even though the agreement signed a year ago is being implemented, there are problems and tragic incidents.
The Ambassador recalled that a statement was adopted on January 11, 2021 in order to develop the agreements of November 9, and according to the statement of January 11, 2021, a working group was set up to unblock the communications. “There won’t be hidden deals, and there won’t be treason,” he said, adding that Russia is working very carefully, with respect for the sovereignty of both parties.
