The Court of Appeal of Armenia has ruled that the head of Kasakh village of the Kotayk Province, Ara Mkrtchyan, be arrested. The information was confirmed by the press secretary of the Investigative Committee, Vardan Tadevosyan, in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the lower court had denied the motion to arrest Mkrtchyan, the prosecutor's office had appealed this ruling to the Court of Appeal, and the latter ruled in favor of this appeal.

Ara Mkrtchyan's lawyer Tigran Ghazaryan told us that they will express their position in this regard later.

A criminal charge had been brought against Kasakh mayor Ara Mkrtchyan has been charged. According to the accusation, Mkrtchyan had forced the residents of Kasakh village to vote against the ruling Civil Contract Party, at the same time presenting a demand to vote for the opposition "With Honor" Bloc during the snap parliamentary elections on June 20.
