Accomplices cannot investigate war crimes. Hayk Mamijanyan, an MP from the opposition "With Honor" Faction, stated this in a talk with reporters Wednesday at the National Assembly of Armenia.

"Second, the involvement of the speaker of the defeat (…), Artsrun Hovhannisyan [i.e., the former press secretary of the Ministry of Defense],  in that process is the peak of cynicism. (…). Everything goes towards that the purpose of this committee will be to find and appoint culprits—most likely in the army.

The logic here is zero because the committee of inquiry is first and foremost a tool of the opposition, as the opposition does not have law enforcement agencies, investigative bodies; the authorities have it. If there are more than a thousand criminal cases, why should the authorities establish another institution? That's incomprehensible to me. With this, the authorities will try to remove the blame from themselves—which will not succeed," Mamijanyan stated.

He expressed a conviction that this committee of inquiry will hardly be able to provide any credible information on the mistakes and crimes committed during the 44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war last fall because they will not report about themselves.

The opposition MP said that at the moment they are discussing the possibility of boycotting the work of this committee of inquiry, but added that this committee will view very valuable information.
