The European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, together with UNDP Armenia, launched today the Mayors for Economic Growth Program.

The Program will run until 2024 and will encourage local governments in the Eastern Partnership member countries to apply innovative development methods designed to ensure a fair approach, as well as a favorable impact on the environment.

“Through the Mayors for Economic Growth Program, the EU will support Armenia’s local authorities to find innovative solutions to overcome difficult challenges, placing emphasis on sustainable economic growth, the creation of jobs and improvement of the living standard of citizens,” EU Ambassador to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin said.

As part of the first phase, over 30 communities in Armenia have created and implemented improved local economic development projects. In the second phase, financial opportunities will be provided to local governments and communities to create and implement their innovative solutions for local development.
