Vladimir Putin today held phone talks with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the Kremlin’s press service reports.

“The main issues of the bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of large and joint investment programs and cooperation in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic were discussed.

The current topics on the international agenda were thoroughly discussed. It was stated that the statehood of Syria and the main hotbed for international terrorism was eliminated mainly through the well-coordinated efforts of Russia and Iran. Both parties expressed their disposition to further coordination for the Syrian settlement, including within the scope of the Astana format. They focused on the situation created around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with respect to Iran’s nuclear program.

Russia and Iran support full implementation of the JCPA within the initially agreed frameworks. Vladimir Putin voiced hope that the upcoming talks in Vienna will be held with the constructive spirit.

During an exchange of views on the current situation in Afghanistan, they highlighted the willingness to support the establishment of peace and stability in this country. The Russian president announced the supply of Russian humanitarian aid (food and first aid products) to Kabul in the near future.

The situation around Nagorno-Karabakh was also touched upon. Vladimir Putin informed about the actions taken by Russia for ensuring the ceasefire, unblocking economic and transport links and establishing peace in the region,” the press release reads.
