Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan today met with UNICEF Representative in Armenia Christine Weigand.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the state of protection of the rights of children in Armenia’s borderline villages and in the villages that became borderline villages in consequence of the last war, especially the problems associated with exercise of the right to education.
Tatoyan presented the violations of the rights of children as a result of illegal border and customs control of the Azerbaijanis on the Goris-Kapan motorway, particularly the violation of the right to education. He also mentioned that, in certain sections of Syunik Province, Azerbaijani armed officers are deployed right next to schools, which is absolutely unacceptable and contradicts the international requirements of the protection of the rights of the child.
The parties attached special importance to further cooperation in the area of protection of the rights of the child and implementation of joint programs.
