The events unfolding on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan attest to the fact that the situation hasn't calmed down in the region. This is what President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin declared in his speech at the enlarge session of the Advisory Board of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to him, the role of Russian diplomacy in the settlement of the situation is growing. “The recent firing on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border showed that the situation hasn’t become fully calm. The efforts of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which serves as the guarantee for the ceasefire and the security of the peaceful civilians, are in high demand for ensuring stability. There is no doubt that the role of Russian diplomacy in the efforts to settle the disputed issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia, restore economic ties and unblock the major transport corridors in the South Caucasus is growing. Russia has a relevant commission at the level of Deputy Prime Ministers, which is active and, in my opinion, there are good prospects. In reality, all the countries of the region, including Russia are interested in a long-term settlement of the issues,” Putin said.
