President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian delivered a speech during the thematic discussion on climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and the new challenges conditioned by climate change and the pandemic held on the sidelines of Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore.

In his speech, Sarkissian particularly emphasized that the rapidly changing world and mankind are confronting several challenges and threats, including the urgent issues caused by climate change and the coronavirus pandemic. He viewed manifestation of collective responsibility, daring steps and the use of combined efforts as necessary in order to find solutions to the issues, emphasizing that green technologies are the path to take to move forward.

Attaching importance to all countries’ commitment to create a green and peaceful future, Sarkissian regretted to record that there are countries which continued to commit inhuman acts even during a horror like the pandemic. He stated that last year, during the difficult period of the pandemic, Armenia’s neighbor Azerbaijan unleashed a large-scale and devastating war against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), and just two days ago, the Azerbaijani forces launched an attack against territories of Armenia that are not far from Jermuk and Lake Sevan and are strictly sensitive in terms of environmental protection and water resources. Sarkissian added that Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions have caused human casualties and caused great damage to the population and nature. President Sarkissian provided the participants of the discussion with details about Azerbaijan’s provocations on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the encroachments against Armenia’s territorial integrity.
