South Korea and the United States have agreed on a draft text of a declaration to officially end the 1950-53 Korean War, Seoul's chief diplomat told Yonhap.

According to him, he and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed progress in consultations of the allies on the declaration.

Regarding the declaration of the end of the war, South Korea and the United States have already shared their understanding of its importance, and both sides have actually reached an agreement on the draft text, he said.

While Seoul and Washington have made significant progress on the declaration, its fate remains uncertain as Pyongyang has not responded to their proposals for dialogue.
