Prince Andrew could be stripped of the title of "Duke of York" if he loses the sexual assault lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre, an alleged victim of American financier and convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to the Evening Standard.
Giuffre has sued Andrew for sexually assaulting her three times when she was a teenager. The British royalty, however, categorically denies those accusations.
Last week, Prince Andrew's close associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was also Epstein's companion, was convicted of sex trafficking and recruiting young girls for the American financier. She faces up to several decades in prison.
According to the Sunday Times, the royal family was considering what to do with Andrew if he lost the aforesaid lawsuit. Accordingly, one measure is to ask him to stop using his title of "Duke of York," the other is to make him give up his remaining ties with charities. Also, he may be asked to cut his housing expenses and will no longer be able to travel abroad due to the risk of extradition.
