A court in Ontario, Canada, awarded C $ 107 million (US $ 83.94 million) plus interest to the families of six people killed in a Ukraine International Airlines plane crash near Tehran, The Guardian writes.

Six family members who were awarded damages by an Ontario court lost spouses, siblings, children, nephews and nieces aboard Flight 752, their attorney Mark Arnold said in a statement Monday. They filed a civil suit against Iran and other officials they believe are responsible for the incident.

The lawyer said his team will seek to seize Iranian assets in Canada and abroad. He said that Iran has oil tankers in other countries, and his team will try to arrest everything they can to pay these sums to the families of the victims.

In mid-2021, a special Canadian team of forensic experts prepared a report in which they accused Iran of incompetence and recklessness in connection with the downed Ukrainian passenger plane. Iran criticized the report as "highly politicized."

Recall that the Boeing plane of the Ukrainian airline Ukraine International Airlines crashed on the morning of January 8, 2020 after taking off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. Onboard there were 167 passengers and 9 crew members. They all died.
