President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has signed a decree accepting the resignation of the country’s government, Tengrinews.kz reports.

The decree adds that Alikhan Smailov has been appointed acting Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and the members of the current government will continue in office until a new government is formed.

Earlier, Tokayev had addressed the people of Kazakhstan in connection with the present-day situation in the country, and had called on the people not to give in to provocations and to resolve all issues through a peaceful dialogue.

Also, it has become known that there will be curfews in Almaty city and the Mangystau region, from 11pm to 7am.

On January 2, the residents of Zhanaozen city had taken to the streets demanding to reduce the prices of liquefied gas.
