Azerbaijan began receiving Turkmen gas within the framework of a trilateral agreement with Iran and Turkmenistan on swap deliveries of blue fuel, Deputy Head of the Department for Organization of Events and Public Relations of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Ibrahim Ahmadov told TASS on Wednesday.
On the basis of this agreement, gas supplies have already begun across the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, said an official. According to him, gas will be transported to Azerbaijan in two directions.
One direction is the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, where gas has already begun to flow, Ahmadov said. Another direction, he added, is Astara on the border with Iran.
“In the second direction, technical preparation for receiving gas is currently underway with Iranian experts. We think that gas transportation to Astara, that is, to the main territory of Azerbaijan, will begin in the near future,” the SOCAR representative said.
He specified that the total gas volumes in both directions will amount to a little over 4 million cubic meters per day.
