The Razm.info specialized website has learned about at least 78 casualties of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and related forces in 2021. And at least 13 of them died or were killed in combat.
Regarding 58 of these casualties it is said they have died in non-combat conditions, whereas the exact causes of the deaths of another 7 are unknown. Three of the casualties were lieutenant colonels, and at least 24 were conscripts.
But out of the aforementioned 78 casualties, Azerbaijan has officially announced only 53, whereas the rest were reported by the Azerbaijani opposition news websites, as well as on social media.
Azerbaijan consistently withholds the actual number of its military casualties—especially after the battles of August 2014—, and some of them are revealed months or even years later. In all probability, there are also such casualties which are not known to Razm.info.
For comparison, in 2020 Razm.info had learned about 55 casualties of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and related forces—and not counting their casualties in the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war that began on September 27, 2020.
