Due to the ongoing unrest, law enforcement agencies have set up 70 round-the-clock checkpoints in Kazakhstan, TASS reported Friday, citing the press service of the ministry of internal affairs of the country.

"Measures are being taken in the republic within the framework of the state of emergency that has been declared. All akimats [i.e., city halls] are freed from the protesters and taken under enhanced protection. Seventy round-the-clock checkpoints have been set up in the country," the respective statement reads.

Six checkpoints have been set up around the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan, Khabar 24 news channel reported, citing the police.
