In 2022, Ukraine, Iran and Taiwan may become the regions where large-scale military conflicts will erupt, said French journalist Alain Frachon in Le Monde.

According to the author, this is the order in which world leaders should rank the threat of a potential conflict.

Speaking about Ukraine, Frachon noted that a key factor in the deterioration of the situation would be the White House's refusal to accept Moscow's proposals on security and not expanding NATO to the East. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the columnist, has expressed his willingness to subdue the entire country.

Iran is an explosive region for a number of reasons. By early this year, Frachon wrote, the country had reached a uranium enrichment level of 60 percent, enabling it to build nuclear weapons. At the same time, Iran and Western countries are finding it increasingly difficult to come to a compromise that could have unpredictable consequences.

In Taiwan, conflict could erupt because of China's increasing number of naval exercises near its borders. According to the journalist, the likelihood of forceful accession of the island is increasing because of Washington's ambiguous position on this issue, which unleashes the hands of Beijing, reports Gazeta.
