The United States called on the UN Security Council to impose additional sanctions on North Korea after a series of missile launches by North Korea, Voice of America reports.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, tweeted that the US is proposing UN sanctions after six North Korean ballistic missile launches since September 2021, each of which is in violation of Security Council resolutions.
An American diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the United States proposed to subject five individuals to sanctions (travel ban and asset freeze). This proposal must be approved by the Security Council sanctions committee.
In addition, work is underway to add three individuals and legal entities to this list.
