The Parakar enlarged community residents who do not accept the results of the December 5 elections of the Parakar Council of Elders are protesting in front of the main building of the Armenian government.
"We have carried out a signature campaign, and 60 percent of the [Parakar] voters have joined that signature campaign. On January 3, the Country to Live faction [of the Parakar council] had submitted to the government a demand that the powers of the council of elders be terminated ahead of time and new elections will be called, as according to the law on local self-government, if the head of the community is not elected within two weeks, the government calls snap elections. We demand that the government respond to the [aforesaid] faction's petition and take appropriate steps," a protester told reporters.
