The West is attempting to prepare an information base for a number of major provocations, including military provocations. The official representative of the Russian foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this Sunday on Russia-1 television, TASS reports.

"It is possible that a number of major provocations are being prepared in the information platforms. Public awareness, public opinion are being prepared for that objective. It's very important for the Collective West, NATO, the Anglo-Saxons, to create an information field without which they will not be able to function," she said.

"Why are they doing this? For what purpose? We do not rule out further large-scale information manipulations and provocations. We do not rule out military provocations either," Zakharova added.

According to her, the UK foreign office had earlier prepared the flow of information to prepare for a coup in Ukraine, hoping that the Russian side would not respond in time.

"Today there was a flow of information from the British foreign office. The most interesting thing is how it was done. This refers to the materials that were publicized in their official sources, and which say that Russia is, allegedly, preparing a coup in Ukraine. The material was prepared in advance. From their point of view, a convenient time for publicizing—at 1:30am Moscow time—was chosen," Zakharova said. "They think that we will not respond, and they sent the material in advance through the media. We have responded and will continue to respond."
