New passports will be introduced in Belgium next month, Izvestia reported, referring to the TV channel RTBF.
They will have twice as many security features as the current version, and images from famous Belgian comics have been added to the design. It will be possible to get such a document from 7 February.
Belgians use plastic ID cards in everyday life. They need a passport only to travel abroad to countries with which the Kingdom has no visa-free relations. The illustrations for it were dated 2008. Therefore, as the channel notes, it was time to change something. As a result, they decided to add national color to the new sample of the document.
The title page of the document is adorned with Tintin rocket. Other pages feature other Belgian comic book characters - Blake and Mortimer, the Smurfs, Bob and Bobette, Ball and Bill, Lucky Luke, Spirou and Fantasio, Largo Winch and others.
In addition, the new document has twice as many pages and security features against forgery. So, if an ordinary passport has 34 pages, the document of the new sample has 66.
