Former US President Donald Trump and his family on Tuesday called the New York State Attorney's civil investigation into their business practices a selective prosecution, arguing that an email sent by the New York State Attorney General to her supporters proves the fact political motivation of the investigation, according to Voice of America.

The Trump family is defying demands from State Attorney General Letitia James, who is trying to force Trump and his two adult children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, to testify about whether they misrepresented the value of their business assets for financial gain.

No criminal charges have been brought against either Donald Trump or his children. James' civil investigation into the Trumps for three years now is unrelated to the criminal investigation into the Trump Organization by new Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump's lawyers said that James, as a member of the Democratic Party, is harassing the former president because of his personal dislike for his speeches and political views and trying to obstruct his political ambitions. Trump, who left office last year, does not rule out running for president again in 2024. In addition, she accused Trump of being behind the storming of the Capitol, which took place on January 6, 2021.
