YEREVAN. – The normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey will be a major step for the whole region. Alexander Schallenberg, the visiting Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs, stated about this at Wednesday’s joint news conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

He added that they need to work to reduce tension and build trust in the region.

Schallenberg said that as a very important element in this regard, they consider the implementation of conscious steps to normalize Armenia’s relations with neighboring Turkey—and which were cut off for historical reasons.

The Austrian FM added that this will be a major step for the Armenian people and the whole region.
