Serzh Sargsyan, the Chairman of the Republican Party and the third President of Armenia has received the delegation of the International Democratic Union.

The delegation comprised Christian Kuttner, Secretary-General of the International Democratic Union, Reinhold Lopatka, member of the Austrian Parliament, Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the International Democratic Union.

The sides discussed the application of the Republican Party of Armenia to join the organization.

At the guests' request, Serzh Sargsyan presented the history of the party, its charter and principles of its activities. Special attention was also paid to the party reforms implemented since the last congress of the Republican Party of Armenia. In that context, the party's efforts to engage the youth were underscored. The parties discussed also situation in the region and security challenges.

Serzh Sargsyan presented in detail the position of the  Republican Party on the Artsakh issue. The representatives of the party and the International Democratic Union, who are members of the conservative ideological structures, touched upon the current state of the conservative ideology, its peculiarities and manifestations in different countries.

The meeting was also attended by Thomas Schrapel, Director of the South Caucasus branch of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
