Turkey pursues a policy of normalization of relations with Armenia with the consent and approval of Azerbaijan. The statement came from Omer Celik, spokesman for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Trend reports.

According to him, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated, "Turkey will not take part in any initiative that the people and the state of Azerbaijan will consider inexpedient."

Citing Erdogan's statement that "If Armenia stays away from these demands and renounces its aggressive attitude towards Azerbaijan, the vision of a large-scale peace mechanism may emerge with the participation of other countries—Russia, Iran, and Georgia—in the region," Celik added that if Erdogan resolutely continues that mission to contribute to regional peace and prevent the crisis in the Black Sea, and steps are taken to normalize relations with Armenia, with the approval and consent of Azerbaijan—and within the concept of "One [Turkish] Nation, Two States."

In the fall of 2020, Azerbaijan launched—with the direct assistance by Turkey—a large-scale military aggression against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Armenia, then deployed troops to the sovereign territory of Armenia—and despite statements of readiness for peace—, and these troops have not been withdrawn to date.
