Hungary expects to start buying gas from Azerbaijan by the end of 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto said this to Trend within the framework of the Azerbaijani-Hungarian business forum in Baku.

The minister expressed hope for the soon completion of work on the creation of an appropriate infrastructure in the region of South-Eastern Europe, so that Azerbaijani gas could be transported to many European countries. According to him, the Hungarian company, which is responsible for transporting gas and generating electricity, is already negotiating with SOCAR.

Hungary was inflamed with sympathy for Azerbaijan after Prime Minister Viktor Orban came to power. Moreover, the sympathy turned out to be so strong that Orban, in violation of all written and unwritten laws, sent back to his homeland Ramil Safarov, who had committed a crime in Budapest that horrified all of Europe. According to some reports, Orban himself benefited greatly from this.
