The Armenian side needs to correlate its actions in the peace issue with the real actions of Azerbaijan. The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, told this to a press conference Friday.

"Peace is very important for me, too. Something else is important here: the adversary [i.e., Azerbaijan] conducts an institutional policy of enmity and hatred towards everything Armenian. (…). Such hatred cannot be compared to peace and democracy. They [i.e., the Azerbaijanis] not only have territorial claims [from Armenians], their goal is the destruction of the [Armenian] people. They speak about peace in the ‘language’ of threats," Tatoyan said.

At the same time, the ombudsman stressed that no representative of Azerbaijan was punished for crimes committed against Armenians.

"Comparisons with World War II are inappropriate. At that time, the initiators were punished. As long as hatred [toward Armenians] is encouraged [in Azerbaijan] at the highest level, we need to compare our actions with it," Arman Tatoyan concluded.
