In February 2019, Pope Francis became the first pontiff to visit the Arabian Peninsula, and his visit, which was called historic, served to strengthen dialogue between religions. In Abu Dhabi, he spoke at an interreligious meeting organized by the Council of Muslim Elders, which was attended by about 700 representatives of different religions and confessions. In addition, Francis signed with the sheikh of the world's largest Islamic university a joint document on countering extremism, which condemns religious wars.

In his video message on the occasion of the International Day of Human Fraternity, the Pope pointed out the importance of solidarity between peoples.
