President Xi Jinping said Friday that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin would inject more vitality into China-Russia relations.

The sides held talks with Putin in Beijing ahead of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony scheduled on Friday night, ChinaDaily reported. 

The Chinese president recalled his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in Russia in 2014 when they agreed to meet again eight years later in Beijing.

According to him, Putin's visit has realized their "get-together for the Winter Olympics."

Xi expressed his willingness to jointly carry forward the Olympic spirit with Putin and friends from across the world.

The president added that he is willing to work with Putin to promote the continuous transformation of high-level mutual trust between China and Russia into results of cooperation in all fields and bring real benefits to the people of the two countries.

The Chinese side also said they are ready for the official launch of the Years of Sports Exchanges between the two countries.
